Frequently Asked Questions
Why convert to seconds first?
Doing all arithmetic in seconds removes the carry-and-borrow errors that make manual base-60 math error-prone. Seconds is a common unit, so the math is just ordinary addition and subtraction.
Can the subtract result be negative?
Yes. In Subtract mode, if the second duration is larger than the first, the result is negative and displays with a leading minus sign rather than wrapping around.
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours for payroll?
Each minute is 1/60 of an hour: 15 min = 0.25 h, 30 min = 0.50 h, 45 min = 0.75 h. For other values, divide by 60: 10 min ≈ 0.167 h, 20 min ≈ 0.333 h.
Does Clock Difference handle overnight spans?
Clock Difference returns the absolute gap between two clock times within a single day. For overnight spans (e.g., 10 PM to 6 AM) use the Add/Subtract duration mode with the total hours and minutes.
