How do I do the paper test?
Move the nozzle to the bed at Z=0 and slide a sheet of printer paper (≈0.08–0.10 mm) underneath. Adjust Z until you feel light, even drag - that's your starting offset.
How do I baby-step the first layer?
While printing the first layer, use the printer's baby-step or live-Z control in ≈0.025 mm increments until lines fuse together without ridges. Save the offset once a single-perimeter square pulls off as one solid sheet.
Typical good Z-offset range?
First-layer gap of 0.05–0.10 mm at a 0.20 mm layer height is the sweet spot. Squish too much and the first layer extrudes ≈140% of intended width; too little and adjacent lines won't bond.
