Coffee Ratio Calculator

Calculate the right coffee-to-water ratio in grams for pour-over, French press, AeroPress, espresso, cold brew, and drip.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard coffee-to-water ratio?

The SCA Golden Cup standard for drip is about 55 g of coffee per 1 L of water, close to 1:18. Most home pour-over and drip brewers use 1:15 to 1:17. Espresso is far stronger, typically 1:2.

How do I weigh water without a scale?

1 ml of water weighs 1 g, so a measuring jug works. For drip brewing, 16 oz (473 ml) of water needs about 28-30 g of coffee.

Why do my numbers depend on brew method?

Espresso (1:2), AeroPress (1:12 to 1:16), pour-over (1:16 to 1:17), French press (1:15), cold brew concentrate (1:5 to 1:8) all extract differently. Use the right ratio for the gear.

Should I weigh beans before or after grinding?

Before. Grinding loses a tiny bit of mass to fines and dust. Weigh whole beans for consistent dose-to-water ratios.
