When should I replace my chain?
Modern 11 and 12 speed chains should be replaced at about 0.5 percent wear to protect the cassette. Older, wider, and single-speed chains can usually run to about 0.75 percent.
How do I measure chain wear?
With the chain under light tension, measure from the center of one pin to the center of the pin 12 links away. A new chain measures exactly 12 inches over those links.
