Final Grade Calculator

Find what score you need on your final exam to achieve your target course grade.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a result above 100% mean?

It means your target overall grade is not mathematically reachable through the final exam alone given your current grade and the exam's weight. You would need extra credit, a curve, or a lower target grade.

What does a result at or below 0% mean?

Your current grade is already high enough that even a zero on the final would still meet your target overall grade. You are locked in above your goal regardless of the final result.

Can I use this for a quiz or midterm, not just the final?

Yes. The formula works for any upcoming graded item. Just enter your current grade excluding that item, its percentage weight, and your target, and the calculator returns the score you need on that item.

What if my current grade includes extra credit?

Enter your current grade as reported by your gradebook, including any extra credit already applied. The calculator treats the current grade as a single number and does not need to know its components.
