How This Calculator Works

Almost every progression game - MMOs, looter-shooters, RPGs, and battle-pass grinds - reduces "how long until I hit my goal" to one division: remaining experience divided by experience per hour. The hard part is estimating the rate honestly. This tool lets you enter an XP-per-hour figure directly when you already know your farm rate, or build it up from XP per kill × kills per hour when you only know per-mob values. It then converts the result into hours, minutes, days, and the number of play sessions of a chosen length, because "47 hours" is much easier to plan around when you know it means roughly 24 two-hour evenings.

Formula / Method

Remaining XP = target XP − current XP. Effective XP/hour = the value you enter directly, or XP/kill × kills/hour in the per-kill mode. Time (hours) = remaining XP ÷ XP per hour. Minutes = hours × 60; days = hours ÷ 24; sessions = ceil(hours ÷ session length). The session count rounds up because a partial session still requires sitting down to play. The model assumes a constant farm rate; if your XP-per-level requirement rises as you level (most games), split the grind into segments and run each level band separately for an accurate total.

Worked Example

You are at 125,000 XP and need 500,000, so 375,000 XP remain. In per-kill mode a mob gives 450 XP and you clear 190 per hour, giving 450 × 190 = 85,500 XP/hour. Time = 375,000 ÷ 85,500 ≈ 4.39 hours ≈ 263 minutes ≈ 0.18 days. At a 2-hour session length that is ceil(4.39 ÷ 2) = 3 sessions. If a rested-XP or event bonus doubled your rate to 171,000/hour the same grind would collapse to about 2.2 hours - which is exactly why timing a grind around an XP event is so valuable.

Common Mistakes

Using a peak burst rate (best pull, full buffs) as the sustained rate - real averages include travel, deaths, and downtime.

Ignoring rising XP-per-level curves; later levels often need several times the XP of early ones, so a flat rate underestimates badly.

Forgetting rested-XP, event multipliers, or party/recruit-a-friend bonuses that change the rate mid-grind.

Entering total XP and XP-to-next-level interchangeably - this tool expects cumulative XP for both current and target.

How do I measure my real XP/hour? Note your XP, play steadily for a fixed window (15–30 minutes is enough to average out variance), note it again, and scale up - this captures the deaths, travel, and respawn waits that a single perfect pull always hides. Should I grind now or wait for an event? Compare the hours at your normal rate against the hours at the event-boosted rate; if an event roughly halves the time, banking quest turn-ins, rested XP, or consumables and cashing them all in during the event is almost always worth the short wait. Why is my estimate off? Almost always because XP-per-level scales up steeply - a flat rate is fine within one level but wildly optimistic across many, so break the journey into level bands, run each band separately with its own remaining XP, and sum the results for a far more reliable total. Does rested or party XP change this? Yes - fold the multiplier into the rate you enter (a 1.5× rested bonus means entering 1.5× your base rate) and re-run; the time scales inversely, so a 2× boost halves the grind. What about diminishing efficiency over a long session? Real focus drops over hours, so a rate measured fresh overstates a marathon; for long grinds, measure a sample from the middle of a session, not the energetic first ten minutes. Treat the single-rate answer as a planning floor when the curve is steep, and as accurate when the rate is genuinely flat within the band you are farming.
