Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I am on pace to hit my goal?
Compare your current daily rate to the daily rate required to reach your target by the deadline. Your current pace = progress so far divided by days elapsed since the start date. Your required pace = remaining progress divided by days left until the deadline. If your current pace equals or exceeds the required pace, you are on track. If your current pace is lower, you need to accelerate. The calculator shows both numbers side by side and flags whether your projected total at your current rate will meet, exceed, or fall short of the target.
Can I use this for weight loss tracking?
Yes. Enter your total goal weight loss as the target (for example, 20 lbs), your deadline, and your current total weight lost. The calculator shows whether you are losing weight fast enough to hit your goal by your target date and what daily or weekly rate you need to stay on track. Update your progress each week after your weigh-in. Because weight fluctuates daily, weekly check-ins give a more accurate picture than daily measurements. This tool tracks pace only and does not provide medical or nutrition advice.
What should I do if I fall behind pace?
First recalculate the required daily rate with your updated current progress - sometimes what feels like falling behind is still within reach. If the new required rate is achievable, simply increase your daily effort. If the required rate is unrealistic, you have two options: adjust the deadline to a later date, or reduce the target to a more attainable number. Breaking the remaining goal into shorter milestone sprints (weekly or bi-weekly sub-targets) can also help keep momentum. Consistent small daily actions compound over time and are more sustainable than trying to catch up with a single burst of effort.
How do I track a reading or word-count goal?
For a reading goal, enter your total page target (for example, 5,000 pages for the year), your start and end dates, and your current pages read. The calculator shows your required pages per day and whether you are ahead or behind. For a writing goal, enter your total word-count target, the deadline, and words written so far to see your required words per day. You can also use this for NaNoWriMo (50,000 words in 30 days requires 1,667 words per day). Any measurable unit works: just enter the numbers and the calculator handles the pace math.
