Fence Calculator

Calculate posts, rails, pickets, and concrete bags needed to build a fence.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many posts do I need?

Posts = (perimeter ÷ post spacing) + 1 for a straight line. Standard spacing is 6-8 feet. Add an extra post for each corner and gate.

How much concrete per fence post?

About one 50-60 lb bag per post for a 4×4 in a 10-inch hole 2 feet deep. Larger posts in colder climates may need more for frost protection.

How many pickets do I need?

Length ÷ (picket width + gap spacing). For 6-inch pickets with ½-inch gaps: 6.5 in per picket, so 100 ft = 1,200 in ÷ 6.5 ≈ 185 pickets.

How deep should fence post holes be?

At least 1/3 of the post's above-ground height, or below the frost line in cold climates (often 36-48 in). Wider holes help with wind loads.
