Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Frobenius norm?
The Euclidean length of a matrix viewed as a long vector of its entries: square root of the sum of squared entries.
Is the 1-norm sum of columns or rows?
Columns. The 1-norm is the maximum column absolute sum. The infinity norm is the maximum row absolute sum.
What is the spectral norm?
The largest singular value of the matrix, also called the induced 2-norm. It is the operator norm with respect to Euclidean lengths and requires SVD or eigenvalue computation.
