Frequently Asked Questions
How does tap tempo find BPM?
It measures the time between taps and converts the average interval to beats per minute: BPM = 60,000 ÷ average interval in ms. More taps average out timing jitter for a steadier reading.
How many taps do I need for an accurate tempo?
Four to eight evenly spaced taps usually settles within ±1 BPM. A single interval works but is sensitive to one shaky tap; averaging several intervals is far more stable.
How do I get BPM from a measured interval?
If you time the gap between two beats, BPM = 60,000 ÷ interval (ms). A 0.5-second (500 ms) beat is 120 BPM; a 0.6-second beat is 100 BPM.
Why does my tapped tempo drift?
Human timing varies by tens of milliseconds per tap, so short samples wander. Tapping along for at least a full bar and discarding the first tap (reaction lag) improves accuracy.
