Frequently Asked Questions
What is the count-to-10 method?
After 28 weeks, pick a daily quiet time (often after a meal) and time how long it takes to feel 10 distinct fetal movements. Most people reach 10 within 10–30 minutes.
When should I call my provider?
ACOG suggests contacting your OB-GYN or labor & delivery if 10 movements take longer than 2 hours, or if you notice a clear, sustained drop from your baby's normal pattern. Trust your instincts - call sooner if something feels off.
Do I need to count before 28 weeks?
Not routinely. Movements before 28 weeks are less consistent and harder to interpret. High-risk pregnancies may start earlier on a provider's advice - follow your care team's instructions.
Does the session length tell me if the baby is healthy?
It's one signal, not a diagnosis. A long session can simply mean the baby is sleeping (cycles last 20–40 minutes). Persistent decreases or absent movement warrant evaluation. This counter is informational - not medical advice.
