Frequently Asked Questions
How does the calculator estimate my leave end date?
It stacks FMLA (up to 12 unpaid, job-protected weeks for eligible employees at 50⁺-employee firms), employer paid parental leave, short-term disability (typically 6 weeks vaginal / 8 weeks cesarean at 60–70% of pay), and state PFL, then adds them to your start date.
Who qualifies for FMLA?
You must have worked 12 months and 1,250 hours for an employer with 50+ employees within 75 miles. FMLA provides up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in a 12-month period for the birth or bonding with a new child.
How do state Paid Family Leave programs stack?
States like CA, NY, NJ, MA, WA, CT, OR, CO, and DC pay a portion of wages (often 60–90% up to a cap) for 6–12 weeks. PFL usually runs concurrently with FMLA, not on top of it - the calculator lets you toggle that.
Does this replace HR or legal advice?
No - it's an estimate. Eligibility, employer policies, and state rules change frequently and interact in complex ways. Confirm dates and pay with your HR/benefits team and review the FMLA notice you receive. This tool is informational only.
