Frequently Asked Questions
What is immersed weight?
The apparent weight of an object when fully submerged: true weight minus the buoyant force from the displaced fluid.
Why does it depend on volume?
Because the buoyant force equals the weight of fluid displaced, which scales with volume (not mass). Equal-mass objects of different volumes feel different apparent weights.
Can apparent weight be negative?
Yes - if the object's density is less than the fluid's, the buoyant force exceeds gravity and the object floats. Apparent weight is negative in that sense (upward net force).
