How long would it take to reach the nearest star?

Proxima Centauri is 4.24 ly away. At 0.1c (30,000 km/s) the trip is 42 years; at 0.01c (3000 km/s), 424 years; Voyager-1's speed needs 75,000 years.

Why is there a traveler's time?

Relativity. Moving clocks tick slower (time dilation). A traveler at 0.99c ages 7× more slowly than Earth observers.

Can we exceed light speed?

No - special relativity forbids it. As v approaches c, energy and time dilation both diverge to infinity.

How long to reach other well-known destinations?

At 0.1c (10% of light speed): Alpha Centauri (4.37 ly) takes about 44 years, Sirius (8.6 ly) about 86 years, and the TRAPPIST-1 system (about 40 ly) roughly 400 years. The center of the Milky Way, some 27,000 ly away, would take about 270,000 years. Divide by the speed in fractions of c to scale any of these.
