Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose a zipper length by application?

Match the zipper to the opening: skirts/dresses commonly use 7–9 in, pants 5–7 in fly zippers, throw-pillow covers the cushion width minus ~1–2 in, and jackets the full center-front length. Round to a stocked size.

How long a zipper for a pillow cover?

Use a zipper about 2 in shorter than the finished pillow width so the seam encloses the ends. For a 18 in pillow, a 16 in zipper works well, or use a continuous coil cut to length.

What if my exact length is not sold?

Buy the next size up and shorten it: sew a bar tack across the teeth at the target length and cut about 1/2 in below, or use continuous-zipper-by-the-yard with separate pulls.

Invisible vs standard zipper length - any difference?

The measured length convention is the same (slider-stop to bottom-stop), but invisible zippers are often bought 1–2 in longer than the opening because the stop sits below the seam end. Trim the excess after installing.
