5 Number Summary Calculator

Compute the five-number summary (min, Q1, median, Q3, max) and IQR of a dataset - the basis for box plots.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the five-number summary?

A compact distribution descriptor: minimum, first quartile (Q1), median (Q2), third quartile (Q3), and maximum.

What is IQR?

Interquartile range = Q3 − Q1. It captures the spread of the middle 50% of the data and is robust to outliers.

Different quartile methods?

Yes - this tool uses Type 7 (linear interpolation, the default in R). Other methods give slightly different Q1 and Q3.
