Frequently Asked Questions
How does the timesheet calculate hours?
For each day it subtracts clock-in from clock-out, then subtracts unpaid break minutes, giving daily hours in decimal and h:mm. It sums the week and splits anything over 40 into overtime.
How are overnight shifts handled?
If clock-out is earlier than clock-in (e.g., 10 PM to 6 AM), the calculator treats it as crossing midnight and adds 24 hours so the shift length is correct.
How do unpaid breaks work?
Enter the total unpaid break minutes for the day (e.g., a 30-minute lunch). They are deducted from worked time. Paid short breaks should not be entered as unpaid.
Is this suitable for official payroll?
It is an accurate planning and verification tool, but employers should reconcile against their timekeeping system and applicable labor rules. It is not payroll or legal advice.
