The output is total trip cost and, more usefully, per-school cost - the number to weigh against information value when deciding whether to add or drop a campus from the itinerary.

Formula / Method

Drive total = (miles ÷ MPG) × gas_price. Flight total = flight_round_trip × travelers. Lodging = hotel_per_night × nights. Food = per_diem × travelers × (nights + 1) - using nights+1 because a 2-night stay is a 3-day trip during which meals are eaten. Tour fees = fee × number_of_schools. Grand total = travel + lodging + food + tours. Per-school = total ÷ number_of_schools. The model does not auto-include ground-transport at the destination (rental car, ride-share, parking) - if you're flying, you should add an estimate (~$60/day for a midsize rental or ~$30/day in rideshare) into the food line or treat it as a separate budget item.
