Frequently Asked Questions

What is a realistic daily reading pace for a busy adult?

25 pages per day is a widely recommended sustainable target for adults with busy schedules. At that pace a 300-page novel takes 12 days and you can finish about 30 books per year, even with occasional missed days.

How are total reading hours estimated?

The calculator uses 1.5 minutes per page as the conversion rate, based on about 250 words per page at roughly 165 words per minute - a comfortable, uninterrupted reading pace rather than a rushed one. Dense academic or technical books will take longer; light fiction will be faster.

What if I read books of very different lengths?

Enter the average pages per book across your entire pile. If your stack has a mix of 200-page novellas and 600-page doorstoppers, a rough average of 350–400 pages is reasonable for a typical adult nonfiction and fiction mix.

What if I read at different speeds each day?

The calculator assumes a constant pace. For planning purposes, use the pace you realistically expect on an average day rather than your best day. You can always re-run the calculator if you update your pace after a few weeks of tracking actual pages read.
