How many items fit in a chest?
A chest holds 27 slots. With stack-64 items, that is 27 times 64 equals 1,728 items per chest, or 3,456 in a double chest.
Can I put a shulker box inside another shulker box?
No. Minecraft blocks the recursion. You can place full shulker boxes inside chests, however, which lets you carry 27 shulkers (each with 27 slots) per double chest.
