Find total seed and bags needed from acreage, rate, germination, and bag size

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I adjust seeding rate for germination?

Divide the target rate by the germination fraction. At 90% germination you order 100/90, about 11% more seed, so the viable seed still hits your per-acre target.

Why does seed get rounded up to whole bags?

Seed is sold by the bag, and running short mid-field means a second dealer trip and an uneven planting date, so the calculator always rounds the bag count up.

Is seeding rate measured in pounds or seeds?

Large-seeded crops like wheat are usually rated in pounds per acre, while small-seeded crops are rated by seed population. This tool works in pounds per acre.

What is pure live seed?

Pure live seed is purity times germination from the seed tag. Ordering by PLS guarantees a target stand regardless of lot quality, which is what the germination adjustment approximates.
