Frequently Asked Questions
What does BMR tell me?
BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body needs at complete rest to keep vital functions running. It is the baseline for estimating your total daily calorie needs.
Why does the calculator show two BMR values?
It computes BMR with both the modern Mifflin-St Jeor formula and the revised Harris-Benedict formula so you can see a realistic range. A difference of 50 to 150 kcal between them is normal.
Which formula should I trust more?
Mifflin-St Jeor is generally considered more accurate for modern populations, while Harris-Benedict is the historical standard. These estimates are for general information only and are not medical advice; ask your doctor or dietitian for clinical guidance.
Does my BMR change over time?
Yes. BMR tends to fall with age and with lower muscle mass, so it is worth recalculating as your body composition changes.
