Career Status Bonus (CSB/REDUX) Calculator

Compare taking the $30K CSB bonus at the 15-year mark with REDUX vs staying on the High-3 pension

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Career Status Bonus?

CSB was a $30,000 lump-sum bonus offered at 15 years of service to members under the legacy High-3 retirement system, in exchange for switching to the REDUX retirement formula. It is closed to those who entered service on/after 1 Jan 2018 (BRS).

What is the REDUX trade-off?

REDUX cuts the retired-pay multiplier from 2.5% × YOS to 2.0% × YOS for the first 30 years (capped near 40% at 20 YOS vs 50% High-3), with reduced COLA (CPI − 1%) until age 62, when a one-time catch-up restores the High-3 amount.

Is the $30K bonus worth it?

For most career members the lifetime present value of the REDUX cut exceeds $30K, especially for those who retire at 20 and live into their 80s. Working past 30 YOS reduces the gap, and high discount rates can flip the math.

How does the calculator model it?

It projects High-3 vs REDUX monthly pension to age 90 (or your input), discounts to present value at your chosen rate, and adds the $30K bonus to the REDUX side. Output is a lifetime PV delta - this is educational, not financial advice.
