Frequently Asked Questions
What is MyCAA?
My Career Advancement Account is a DoD scholarship for spouses of active-duty service members in pay grades E-1 to E-5, W-1 to W-2, and O-1 to O-2 (plus eligible Guard/Reserve activations). It funds licensing, certification, and associate-degree programs.
How much can MyCAA pay?
Up to $4,000 lifetime, with a $2,000 annual fiscal-year cap. Programs costing more than $2,000 in one course require a waiver. Funds go directly to approved schools after a course is requested and approved.
What programs are eligible?
Portable career fields: licensure (cosmetology, real estate, nursing), certifications (PMP, AWS, CompTIA, medical billing), and associate degrees. Bachelor's and master's degrees are not covered; check the MyCAA portal for current approved schools.
When does eligibility end?
When the sponsor promotes out of eligible grades or separates. Plan course completion within the sponsor's eligible window; the calculator can estimate completion by your sponsor's projected promotion date. This tool is educational only.
