Frequently Asked Questions
What is HDIP-Parachute?
Hazardous Duty Incentive Pay – Parachute Duty pays $150/month for static-line/basic jump status and $225/month for HALO (military free fall). Both require maintaining jump qualifications and assignment to a parachute-coded billet.
How many jumps are required to keep the pay?
Members must complete at least one qualifying jump within three months and meet the broader requirement of staying current per service regulations (commonly viewed as ≥1 jump every 90 days; annual minimums are also tracked).
Is jump pay taxable?
Yes - HDIP is taxable income (unlike BAH/BAS), except in designated combat zones where the Combat Zone Tax Exclusion applies. The calculator treats it as taxable by default.
Can I draw both parachute and HALO pay?
No. HDIP-Parachute and HDIP-HALO are mutually exclusive - you receive the higher rate when qualified. This tool is educational; confirm entitlements with your unit finance NCO.
