How is the daily food amount calculated?
The calculator estimates resting energy needs from your pet projected adult weight, multiplies by a growth factor that is higher for young animals, then converts the calories into cups and grams using your food calories per cup.
Why use projected adult weight, not current weight?
Growth energy needs scale with the size the animal is growing toward. Using current weight would underfeed a fast-growing puppy or kitten.
How many meals a day does my pet need?
Very young puppies and kittens usually need three to four small meals a day to keep blood sugar stable, dropping toward two meals as they mature.
