Frequently Asked Questions
Why multiply by 1.54 for dry volume?
Mixed concrete is denser than the sum of dry materials. Water fills voids between sand grains, cement coats and fills smaller voids, and mixing compacts everything. The 1.54 factor (54% extra) is the industry-standard approximation for typical Indian/global mix design.
Bag of cement weight?
Standard: 94lb (US imperial), 50kg (metric). Both yield approximately 1 cubic foot (0.0283 m³) of cement powder. Some smaller bags exist (43lb, 25kg) for retail; check the bag specs for yield.
Difference between concrete and cement?
Cement is the powdery binder ingredient. Concrete is cement + sand + gravel + water. People often say 'cement' when they mean 'concrete', but cement alone is too weak and shrinks too much to be used as a structural material on its own.
