What is the difference between thinset and mastic?

How long does thinset take to cure?

Most thinset reaches initial set in 24 hours and full cure in 28 days. Standard thinset grouting time is 24-72 hours. Rapid-set or modified thinsets can accept grout in 3-4 hours. Do not allow water on tiled surfaces during cure.

Modified vs. unmodified thinset: when does it matter?

Modified thinset (with latex polymer) improves bonding, flexibility, and water resistance. Use it for most floor and wall tile projects. Unmodified thinset is required when setting glass tile, large-format thin tile, and over certain membranes where the polymer additive could cause incompatibility.
